Brandon Mechele: "Felt great to add that cherry to my 500th game"
“It felt great to be adding that cherry on top of my 500th game,” Brandon Mechele was beaming afterwards. “The ball fell in our midfield, making it easier to proceed than to run back. And when Christos Tzolis follows up with the perfect cross, it was a cakewalk really to head in that opener just before the break. We made it to 2-0 after the break, so I do believe this is a well-earned victory. Not our best performance, but we were in control, created several opportunities we forgot to finish, but it was enough to come out on top today. And we had something to make up for after that defeat at La Louvière, we really couldn't suffer that same fate again. Our coach had insisted more point loss should be avoided at all costs, and we managed to do so. It's not only in the Champions League we want to shine, we also want to sparkle in the national league, it's at least equally important.”
Hans Vanaken: "We claim the three points again today, and that's what matters most"
"A good night in Bruges, particularly after our European mission on Thursday. Another three points, and that's what matters most. We had a rough start to the game, but after that we dominated and hardly gave anything away. Our game is one of lots of intensity at a high pace. It's not easy to bring that the entirety of a game, especially when you get to play two games a week, but we're working on it week by week. Onyedika allows me to play a more relaxed game. You can always hand it to him and rest assured, and he pulls his weight in defense too."
Nicky Hayen: "Happy with the clean sheet"
It took some time before the game finally opened up, but in the end it was Club claiming the full loot against an in form STVV. A pleased coach Nicky Hayen recaps on his team's performance.
“We are happy with the three points, the clean sheet, and the way we played the second half. After the break we were much more dominant than in the first 45. We made the mistake of playing STVV's pace, which kept us from unsettling their organisation. The second half came with much more shifts in pace, and then you can easily spot the differencey. Our players indicated themselves at half-time that they needed to speed up, aiming at scoring that second and that third goal. They had to: as long as the score is at 1-0, it's still all to play for. You know that unfortunate ball loss might lead to a counter attack, allowing the opponent some breathing room. Fortunately that didn't come about, and we managed to safely reel in those three points.”
Bjorn Meijer: "I feel stronger and stronger"
“I do believe we deserved this win”, Björn Meyer explained after the final whistle. “It might have been 3 or 4-0, but I think we can look back on a decent performance, with the exception of the start of the game, which we took on too reflective. Particularly after a hefty European game: we lost out on points all too often last season. We talked about it before the game, that we had to start out strong, and maybe that served as a wake-up call for some. All in all, this was a fun game to play, particularly because I was involved a lot, which adds some spice obviously. I could have scored myself too, but unfortunately that didn't happen. I feel stronger week by week, which is great after the very rough season I had personally last year.”
