Brandon Mechele: "The difference in quality was very high"
"It was at times too easy how Bayern was allowed to score in the first half," said Brandon Mechele. "You knew beforehand that nothing was allowed to go wrong and then when it becomes 1-0 after just four minutes, you are immediately trailing. You know they can create chances out of nothing and so they did today. The difference in quality was huge and very clear, so we can only learn from it today. At one point they started coming from everywhere. For example, on Kane's goal. He suddenly pops up by the far post and only has to tap it in. We also have to admit that we didn't see the best Club tonight. It was really hard to play because the spaces were way too big, particularly in the first half. It's just unfortunate that we lost by four to zero."
Hans Vanaken: "Bayern was just too strong"
"We knew it was going to be a tough assignment," were the first words of captain Hans Vanaken. "We all know Bayern has a lot of qualities and when you also concede after a few minutes, you just know it's going to be a long night. In the first half, I think we had two chances through Tzolis, but other than that there wasn't much danger from our side. Bayern was just too strong, we have to admit that. We now have to work with the footage available and see what we can do better against Barcelona or Arsenal. Those are also two world class teams. It will have to be a lot better if we want to get a point against these types of teams, both defensively and offensively."
Nicky Hayen: "Very humble attitude today"
Bayern Munich proved the better of Club in every aspect of the game. Coach Nicky Hayen was obviously disappointed afterwards, but also realistic.
"There could have been even more goals today," the coach started off his analysis. "I think Jackers kept us afloat at certain moments in the game. I think you just have to be very humble today. You're playing against maybe the best team in Europe - and maybe the world - right now. You have a game plan in theory and in practice. The game plan was to play with guts, but I think you saw from the beginning that we crawled back too much and played with too much fear. I'm not saying with too much respect, but too much fear. We retracted too far and let Olise, for example, come into that sixteen too often. This while we agreed before the game we would try to keep him out of the sixteen, because in that case he becomes even more dangerous. I also said in the locker room that you are playing against a toplevel team. Everything is going faster, better and smarter. That's why we are working at our Basecamp every day to gain those slight percentages. We have the facilities, so everyone just has to mirror what they saw today and try to get the maximum out of it."
The Bruges coach could not be completely satisfied with his team's performance. "Not really indeed, because we had to be 100 percent today to pick something up. There were just too many moments when you weren't 100% and by that I mean, for example, the runs that weren't followed. I think they scored two goals from that. They do everything at 100% and when you put in a chase at 80%, you just know you're going to come up short," Nicky Hayen concluded.
