The match
On Saturday evening, Club Brugge KV play their final away game of the regular season, visiting KVC Westerlo at 't Kuipje. It will be the 44th duel in the Belgian First Division between Club and Westerlo. In the previous 21 away matches in the Kempen region, Club have lost only once—27 years ago, when they went down 1–0 after a goal from Vedran Pelic. In the last 18 away games at ’t Kuipje, the Blues have remained unbeaten (14 wins, 4 draws).
Earlier this season, the two clubs shared the points at Jan Breydel. In a spectacular clash, both teams took the lead twice, but the match ultimately ended in a 5–5 draw in the extra time. Nicolò Tresoldi scored twice in the same match for the first time.
For the moment, Club Brugge have both the assist leader and a joint top scorer in their ranks: Tresoldi already scored 11 goals this season, while Christos Tzolis leads the assist rankings with 11 assists.
For Romeo Vermant, it will be a special match: in the 2023–24 season, he spent half a year on loan at Westerlo. Against his former club, he could also play his 75th match in the Jupiler Pro League.
Next to Brandon Mechele, Tzolis must now also avoid a yellow card to ensure he does not miss the home match against KV Mechelen.
The opponent
On Saturday evening, KVC Westerlo host Club Brugge. The Kempen side, together with Standard Liège and KRC Genk, are among the three teams with 38 points, just one point away from a place in the Champions’ Play-Offs. After their home match against Club, Westerlo still have to face direct rival Standard away to keep their hopes alive of finishing in the top six.
Since last summer, Issame Charaï has been in charge of Westerlo. He belongs to a select group of five coaches who started the season with their club in July 2025 and are still in charge today. Westerlo is the first club to give him a chance as head coach. Previously, he worked as an assistant coach at K Beerschot VA, Sint‑Truidense VV, OH Leuven, RC Strasbourg Alsace, and Rangers FC.
At Westerlo there is also a familiar face on the bench: goalkeeper coach Vladan Kujovic, who was a goalkeeper at Club Brugge from 2011 to 2015.
In their last seven league matches, Westerlo have lost only once (4 wins, 2 draws). Last weekend they travelled to OH Leuven, where they won 0–1 thanks to an own goal by the home side. That match gave Westerlo their 10th clean sheet of the season—only Royale Union Saint‑Gilloise (13) have more. In their last four league games, Westerlo have kept a clean sheet three times.
With seven goals, Nacho Ferri is currently Westerlo’s top scorer. He scored two of those goals in the first duel against Club at Jan Breydel. Japanese midfielder Isa Sakamoto is the club’s best provider with four assists.
Together with Hans Vanaken, the 24-year-old Westerlo goalkeeper Andreas Jungdal is one of eight players who have not missed a single minute in the regular league this season. The Danish goalkeeper played for Westerlo on loan from US Cremonese last year and made a permanent move to the Kempen this summer.
Notably, Westerlo has the youngest starting lineup in the regular league, with an average age of 23.39 years. Moreover, only 2.17 Belgian players start on average—the lowest number in the top division.
