Days before making the trip to Jan Breydel at the occasion of the UEFA Champions League League Phase, AS Monaco had the perfect dress rehearsal as it overcame Auxerre 1-2 on Saturday.
Away at Auxerre, it took a forceful AS Monaco to claim the three points. Taking the lead just before the break through Takumi Minamino, Monaco seemed bound for victory after Casimir conceded a second yellow in the second half.
But things can run differently in football: straight after that red card, an unfortunate Mohammed Salisu saw his touch end up in his own goal. Auxerre now smelled blood, looking to upset Monaco even more.
It was only in the very end of the game that George Ilenikhena pulled it over the line for Monaco, grabbing the three points for Monaco in the 89th minute. The team from the South of France is now in third place with a nine out of 12 so far, alongside Lyon and PSG.
