Cisse Sandra: "I take this loss very personally."
Sandra was again given a starting place by Hayen after a good performance against Standard. This time, unfortunately, he is not in the winning camp. "I'm very disappointed. I think we play a good game here until it goes 1-1. That's where I bitterly regret that pass back to Sabbe. I take that very much to heart because that's where the game tilts. I take this very personally right now. It's very unfortunate. Here we can take three points, but at 15 minutes we give it away completely. Overall, I can be satisfied. I did my job in ball loss and did my bit offensively. Now that one pass weighs on me, but afterwards I will hopefully be able to look back on a good game by myself."
Christos Tzolis: "Not happy with the result."
With a beautiful blast, Tzolis brought Blue-Black to the lead around the half-hour mark, but in the end, he too went down with them in Bergamo. "It was a tough, tough match, as it often is in the Champions League. We tried to play our game and we succeeded quite well in the first half. We didn't give much away either, because they had few chances. That penalty turned the game in their favor. Afterwards, they were then able to score from a stoppage time and that's unfortunate. Obviously we are not happy with the result, because there was more in it. We still lose at the end. Tomorrow we will analyze where we can do even better. We now have some matches against top European clubs coming up, but first we have to focus on Sunday, on the match against Union."
Nicky Hayen: "Details make the difference"
Blauw-Zwart was ahead at halftime, but eventually had to lose out against Atalanta after a goal in the closing stages. Coach Nicky Hayen was therefore disappointed afterwards. "Details made the difference tonight. We make an individual mistake by playing that ball back badly. This creates a phase in the sixteen and it resulted in a penalty. At that moment you have full control of the match and also the feeling that they can't put that pressure anymore like in the first half. So a very important detail tilts the match and because of this you give them oxygen. Then the stadium feels that there is more in it again. Despite that, 1 or 2 minutes later you do get a chance yourself after a gift from them and you don't capitalize on that. That's the big difference: they get a gift and unwrap it and we don't. So you get opportunities, but you also know it's going to be difficult until the last minute. Then it's very sour that you still get that corner kick in and are left with zero points. You are 0-1 ahead, have possession of the ball and do the right things. But then that shouldn't happen, because details in the Champions League make the difference and that was shown tonight. In the Champions League you have to be able to play error-free and I think we did that very often last year. Then it was us who punished an opponent's mistake and today the opposite happened."
